Many denominations within Christianity exist, why? Often denominations follow established doctrines without verifying them with Scripture. Someone in the past taught someone else who passed on the teaching again until reaching today. Each sincerely taught what they were told Scripture meant, but along the way no one verified if the historical teaching was correct.
God scolded those following traditions of men over God’s commands: Mark 7:9 “And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.” Further warning them: Mark 7:7 “Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. God clearly states, if you follow men’s traditions, dismissing His, you worship God in vain! You are not worshiping God as He is, rather as you imagine Him. In essence you may be worshiping an idol, your preconceived idea of God, rather than God. Scripture tell believers to study ourselves: 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
Do you study or merely trust one who studies? When standing before God we cannot say, but the preacher said the verse meant this or Dan said it meant that. God holds each of us accountable to know what we believe and why we believe it.
I encourage you, study! Question the doctrines of your denomination and see if they match Scripture! Seek to have them changed to match the Bible when they disagree. IF denominations would do this, and Christians would accept God’s Word for what it actually says without added assumptions and conclusions not clearly stated, the church would have one denomination. God is not the author of confusion: 1Cor 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.”
